Buckle Up, and stop smoking...

This is my first article of the year, to all the readers, I wish you a Happy New Year. Many of us turned to write down their resolution for the 2009. Things like: - Job security, getting new house, a brand new car (yes, some still doing that), quit smoking & to stay safe and peace of mind.

However, couple of new resolutions were imposed by our local government (I hardly define 'local' given myself in this situation, it can either be Malaysia or Singapore) which was the last two items I listed above. But yes you heard it right, from 1st Jan, Singapore government extended the list of public places where smoking is banned. You can refer to NEA website for more details. On top of that, a packet of 20s cigarettes costs SGD10-12 and it's an illegal to bring in from overseas, so if you plan to quit smoking this year, come to Singapore.

Back home, our government also did very well. This time, they enforced that every passenger of the backseat must fasten their seatbelt as a safety measurement, or faced summon. You can refer to this link:

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/12/27/nation/20081227190334&sec=nation

It was quoted: "Other vehicles that were exempted from the ruling were commercial vehicles such as taxis and rental cars, large vehicles that seated nine passengers or more and haulers that had a tonnage limit of more than 3.5 tonnes."

My question is why they can be excused, considering the main idea for the enforcement is for safety measurement? Secondly, the taxi driver, or commercial vehicle driver, however, drive even reckless than we do. For those who took airport limo from/to KLIA, you'll find that they are driving like no body's business, speeding & overtaking. Times like this, they may 'fly' for getting more businesses.

So, if you are looking for a safe & peaceful mind when driving on the road, be somewhere else.
