Bon Appetite!

"I think u will save a few RM at most per month". That was one of the feedback from my good friend Timmy. We were having a small conversation during lunch time talking about the recent food price reduction posted on Thestar, dated today.

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/12/30/nation/2908500&sec=nation

It was reported that "the Restaurateurs have begun to reduce food prices of local favourites like the roti canai, teh tarik, fruit juices and fried chicken to lure customers."Roti canai is down to 90 sen from RM1.20, while teh tarik is RM1.40 now, compared to RM1.50 earlier." Aren't these revised prices similar to what I was paying 3 months ago in PJ? Taking PJ-Sentosa mamak as an example, having a Teh Tarik (Big) costed me RM1.20 & a piece of Roti for RM0.90. I don't see any significant saving for such reduction. In addition, Timmy was completely right; basically you won't be spending most of your meal at Mamak stall. In times like these, spending 5 times a month for eating out would only spare you a change for another cup of teh tarik. But what about electricity, tolls & other utilities charges?

After spending 2 months here in Singapore, I found out that the food in Malaysia is prohibitly expensive until you can feel the shrinking value of our local currency (Ringgit). Taking the mamak stall near my office for example. One Teh Tarik (Big) & Prata (Prata means Roti Canai in Singapore) costs me 70cents respectively, so you need to pay only $1.40 for both items. However, RM1.40 gets you nothing when you order a teh tarik at Nasi Kandar Kayu.

He added "There’s no official statistics shows on how many mamak shops is following the government’s order". So who will be doing the enforcement? Or just another act-of-god matter?
Me having Teh Tarik at Kota Tinggi, in conjunction with Marek's visit
